MOTUL SPEEDBURST

Pedal to the metal when the time is right

Split second reactions will be the order of the day as we launch our machines from the start line, crossing the quater mile as fast as we can, and carrying on to the top end run finnish line.

THE COURSE

MOTUL SPEEDBURST RULES

These rules are subject to change.

  • 3 Runs
  • Fastest quater mile time counts

Safety First:

  • Vehicle Requirements: All vehicles participating in the drag race must meet the safety regulations.
  • Driver’s License: Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Mandatory Gear: Wear the following mandatory safety gear:
    • SABS Approved helmet
    • Long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and closed-toe shoes (basic level of protection)

  • Track Officials Respect: Obey all instructions and signals from designated track officials throughout the racing area, including the starting line, burnout area, and finish line.

Competition:

  • Predetermined Classes Based on Horsepower: Drag races will be conducted within predetermined classes based on the horsepower output of the vehicles. Organizers will establish horsepower ranges for each class before the event.
  • Drivers will be informed of their assigned class based on their vehicle’s horsepower. This ensures fair competition among drivers with vehicles of comparable power.

Race Procedures:

  • Class Designation and Staging: Organizers will confirm your class designation based on horsepower and direct you to the appropriate staging lane to wait for your turn.
  • Waiting List/Queue System: A queue system might be implemented to manage the order within each class. Be prepared to wait your turn patiently and follow any instructions from the event staff.
  • Pre-Stage and Starting Lights: The Christmas tree lighting system at the starting line signals the racer through various stages. A bulb illuminates for pre-stage (car needs to be staged correctly), followed by two bulbs for stage (car staged and ready), and finally the single green bulb to initiate the race. A red light signifies a disqualification (usually for jumping the start).
  • The Race: Once the green light illuminates, racers accelerate down the track aiming to complete the course in the quickest time possible.
  • Winner Determination: The top 3 winners in each class will be determined by the lowest tiem  taken to reach a quater mile.

Penalties and Disqualifications:

  • Penalties or disqualifications can be issued for various infractions, including jumping the start (red light), exceeding course boundaries, missing the staging beams, or unsportsmanlike conduct. The specific penalty will depend on the severity of the infraction and the race organization’s rules.
