GYMKHANA RULES

Rules subject to change. Notice will be provided.

  • Unlimited runs
  • Fastest 2 laps combined counts

These rules are subject to change.

Safety:

  • Vehicle Requirements: All Porsches participating in the gymkhana must be in good working order and meet all safety regulations. Refer to the event organizers for specific details regarding acceptable modifications (if any).
  • Safety Marshals: Obey all instructions and signals from designated safety marshals stationed around the course.
  • Intoxication: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.

Required Safety Gear:

  • Helmet: All drivers must wear an SABS approved helmet that fits properly. This is the most crucial safety element, protecting your head in a collision.
  • Clothing: Drivers must wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and closed-toe shoes while on the course or in the designated practice area. This provides a basic level of protection in case of contact or minor incidents.

Important Note:

  • Gymkhana involves inherent risks. While roll cages and fire extinguishers can significantly improve safety in the event of an accident, they are not mandatory for this specific event.
  • It is always recommended to prioritize safety and consider using additional protective gear beyond the minimum requirements whenever possible.

Competition:

  • Single Course: There will be one designated course layout for all participants.
  • No Checkpoints: The course will be designed with cones, markers, and a designated starting/ending zone with a laser beam. Penalties will be assessed for knocking over cones, exceeding course boundaries, or triggering the laser beam incorrectly.

Scoring:

  • The fastest time within each class will be used to determine the winner for that class.

Two Official Runs:

  • Drivers will be given two (2) official runs to complete the course.
  • Best Run Counts: The best time from either run will be used for scoring purposes.

Laser Start/End and Run Procedures:

  • Starting the Run: Interrupt the laser beam with the front of your Porsche to trigger the starting timer.
  • Finishing the Run: Completely cross the finish line with the front tyres of your Porsche (back tyres must be behind the line) to record your lap time.
  • Course Courtesy: Do not enter the course until the previous driver has finished their run and exited the course completely. Wait in a designated staging area until it is your turn.

Penalties:

  • Penalties will be assessed for various infractions, such as knocking over cones, exceeding course boundaries, or incorrectly triggering the laser beam.
  • To finish, front tyres must be over the line, rear tyres must be behind the finish line. Any devaition from this rule will result in a DNF.
  • The specific penalty amount (in seconds) will be determined by the event organizers and communicated to participants beforehand.

Multiple Runs and Re-Runs:

  • Drivers are permitted two (2) official runs. However, re-runs due to mechanical issues may be allowed at the discretion of the event organizers, potentially incurring a penalty.

Wait List/Queue System:

  • The organizers may implement a wait list or queue system to manage the order in which drivers can enter the course for their timed runs.
  • Be prepared to wait your turn patiently and follow any instructions from the event staff regarding the queue.

General Rules:

  • Schedule: Review the event schedule provided by the organizers, which may outline designated breaks or course closures for maintenance.
  • Technical Issues: In case of mechanical problems during your run, notify the event staff immediately. Depending on rules, you may be allowed a re-run or incur penalties.
  • Sportsmanship: Maintain a positive and respectful attitude towards other competitors, volunteers, and judges.
